    Sharps New Model 1859 Percussion Breechloading Rifle. Serial no. 56687, .52 caliber, 30-inch round barrel fixed front sight and adjustable leaf rear sight. Top of barrel marked NEW MODEL 1859. Blued barrel with casehardened receiver, breechblock, lock, lever and trigger plate. Lock marked: C. SHARPS' PAT. / OCT. 5TH 1852 and R.S. LAWRENCE PAT. / APRIL 12TH 1859. Right side of receiver marked C. SHARPS' PAT. / SEPT. 12TH 1848. Oiled walnut stock with full fore-end and three barrel bands, two sling swivels, iron patchbox . Numerous inspector's cartouches stamped on the wrist.
    Condition: Very good as partially refinished. Metal with a mottled brown patina. Scattered shallow pitting, especially around the breech area. Upper tang's rear screw replaced as is the single screw on the buttplate. The cartouches on the stock are crisp and the wood exhibits only modest storage wear. Mechanically sound. Bore dark and a bit pitted, but the rifling is strong.
