    Rare Double Set Triggers

Sharps Model 1874 Military Rifle Shipped to Liddle & Keating, San Francisco, 1876. Serial no. 155587, .44-90 caliber, 30-inch round barrel with Hartford address, brazed blade front and Lawrence rear sights. Breech marked: CALIBRE 44. Left side of breech marked with Sharps Rifle Co. patent stamp. Double-set triggers (rare for this model). Oil-finished walnut stock with two sling swivels, three barrel bands and patchbox. Rifle buttplate. Weight approximately 10 lbs. 1,769 manufactured. Sold together with a copy of the factory letter signed by Dr. Moore and confirming current configuration. Letter also states a February 29, 1876 ship date to famous western firearms dealer Liddle & Keating at 538 Washington St. in San Francisco. An interesting additional note states that the Sharps Factory moved from Hartford just a few weeks prior to the shipment. Dr. Moore ends with, "I am sure they took their Hartford inventory with them."

Condition: Very good to fine. Retaining approximately 20-30% original blue, the balance a thinning gray-brown patina. Hammer, breech and lever with just traces of silvered case colors, the balance a mottled blue-gray patina. Patchbox with traces of muted case colors. Buttplate with scattered light pitting. Signs of having been cleaned. Stock is fine with light wear and a later applied varnish. Bright bore with light wear. Hammer does not stay cocked.
