    Rare Telecopic Sight

    Sharps Model 1874 Heavy Sporting Rifle Shipped to Texas 1877.
    Serial no. 162125 (receiver, barrel and inside of fore-end), .45-90 caliber (2 7/8), 28-inch octagonal barrel with Bridgeport address and a Wm. Malcolm-marked telescopic sight # 2922/8. Top barrel flat also marked: OLD RELIABLE and CAL. 45. Barrel flat under fore-end is marked: 11/14/16. Left barrel flat marked: 2 7/8. Left side of frame with Sharps Rifle Co. patent marking. Double-set triggers. Oil-finished walnut stock with Schnabel fore-end. Standard shotgun buttplate. Sold together with a copy of the factory letter signed by Dr. Moore which confirms current configuration and ship date of November 14, 1877 to " J.W. Knox of Jacksboro, Texas, and was shipped in care of Moorehead and Company of Fort Worth, Texas, a freighter...Undoubtedly, this gun was intended for buffalo hunting." Weight approximately 17 lbs.

    Condition: Fine. Barrel retaining approximately 50-60% original thin blue, the balance fading to a smooth, mottled gray-brown patina. Scope is in similar condition but a bit more mottled. Case colors have thinned to a mottled silver-gray. Stock is very good to fine with an old re-varnish. Scattered dents and scratches commensurate with use but very well preserved. Minor wood loss to right side of fore-end. Action very good. Bore is very bright showing wear. Optics very clear.
