    Sharps Model 1853 Slanting Breech Percussion Carbine.
    Serial no. 10517, .52 caliber, 21 1/2-inch round barrel with ladder rear sight and brass fixed front sight blade. Originally blued with casehardened frame, breechblock, etc. Right side of lock marked: C. SHARPS / PATENT / 1852. Tang marked: SHARPS / PATENT / 1848. Top of barrel marked: SHARP'S RIFLE / MANUFG. CO. / HARTFORD, CONN. Sling ring side bar extending from the left side of the breech to the barrel band. Walnut stock and fore-end with brass patchbox in the butt, brass buttplate and brass barrel band.

    Condition: Fair. The metal has a uniform smooth brown patina. The stock exhibits much use in the form of deep scratches, gouges and some loss along the barrel on the right side. The slide ring is bent a bit. The carbine is in mechanically sound condition and the bore still retains strong rifling.
