    Sharps' Conversion Buffalo Rifle.
    Serial no. 53108, .45-70 caliber, 30 3/4-inch octagonal barrel with globe front sight. Blued and case-hardened finish. Tang-mounted vernier rear sight. Lock plate marked: C.SHARPS' PAT/OCT 5TH 1852. Six-groove rifling. Lever retained with slide catch marked with an inspector's A. Varnished walnut stock with cheekrest. 12 1/2-pounds. Curved steel buttplate.

    Condition: Fine. Period replacement barrel retaining approximately 60-70% blue finish, the balance a smooth mottled blue-gray patina with wear to relief edges. Scattered minor nicks and dents. Polish and grind marks at the breech. Blued hammer with what appears to be period (frontier?) modifications. Traces of case colors to frame and buttplate, the balance a silver-gray patina. Stock: Fine. Retaining almost all of an older re-varnish. Minor repair to right front of fore arm.
