    Maynard Second Model Breechloading Saddle Ring Carbine. Serial no. 7568, 20-inch part round barrel, .50 caliber. Blued finish with case-hardened frame. Right side of frame marked: MANUFACTURED BY/MASS. ARMS CO./CHICOPEE FALLS. The left side of frame marked: EDWARD MAYNARD/PATNENTEE/MAY 27, 1851/DEC. 6, 1859. Inspector initials on ring bar, left side of barrel and on buttplate. Walnut buttstock with saddle ring present and government inspector cartouches on left side. Condition: Very good. Barrel is now a mostly smooth brown-blue patina likely from a smoker's environment.. Frame with generous amounts of case-colors. Lightly pitted hammer. Percussion nipple a possible replacement. Wood very good with small chips along right side of upper tang. Bore is bright, with strong rifling but scattered patches of moderate pitting.
