    Marlin Single Shot Target Rifle. Serial no. 28297, .22 caliber, 28-inch half round barrel with shrouded post front sight. Nickeled receiver and lever. Left side of receiver marked: MARLIN FIREARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CT, USA/PATENTED FEB 9, 1875./BALLARD'S PATENT. NOV. 5, 1861. Case-hardened hammer and trigger. Tang-mounted rear peep sight. Finely checkered figured walnut stock with cheekpiece and Schutzen-type buttplate. Condition: Fine. Barrel retaining approximately 85-90% original thinning blue, the balance a fine gray-brown patina. Losses and small patch of pitting at the muzzle. Nickel-plate has turned milky with some light staining and wear at the action. Stock is fine with scattered light scratches and dents. Dark bore showing some wear and in need of cleaning.
