    Experimental Burnside Rifle Co. Second Model Breechloading Rifle.
    Serial no. 848 [all matching], .54 caliber, 25 1/2-inch barrel with bayonet lug, fixed front sight and rear ladder sight. Right side of lock marked: BURNSIDE RIFLE CO. / PROVIDENCE, R.I. Smooth hardwood straight stock. Sling swivels. Crescent metal buttplate. Extremely rare piece here, only four or five of these are known and this was the first test by Burnside to develop a rifle for the Army.

    Condition: Good. Finish primarily a smooth light grey patina with noticeable wear and fine patches of pitting. Scattered minor scuffs and dings to wood. Action good.
