    Burnside Fifth Model Breechloading Saddle Ring Carbine. Serial no. 30354, 21-inch blued barrel with case-hardened frame. Dove-tailed front and flip up rear sight (with inspector's H).Breech is marked:
    BURNSIDE PATENT/MARCH 25,1856/30354.
    Guide screw in right side of frame for hinged center section of breech block with the top marked: 30354. Left side of lock plate marked: BURNSIDE RIFLE CO./PROVIDENCE, R.I. Top of barrel marked: CAST STEEL 18?? Saddle ring and bar present. Walnut forearm and stock with sling swivel and curved steel buttplate. Condition: Very good as possibly refinished. Steel with an attractive plum-brown patina. Scattered patches of fine pitting mixed with a cigar smoke texture. Bore with very strong rifling and scattered patches of moderate pitting. Wood is fine with only light age wear.
