    Sharps New Model 1859 Percussion Breech-Loading Rifle.
    Serial no. 56687. .54 caliber. 30-inch round barrel with fixed blade front sight and flip-up ladder rear sight. Barrel blued; breech, receiver, lever, etc. casehardened. Right side of receiver marked: "C. SHARPS' PAT. / OCT. 5TH 1852" and "R.S. LAWRENCE PAT. / APRIL 12TH 1859"; left side marked: "C. SHARPS' PAT. / SEPT. 12TH 1848". Top of barrel marked: "NEW MODEL 1859". Walnut stock with three barrel bands, patchbox and curved metal butt. Two sling loops. Four small inspector's cartouches on the left side of the butt.

    Condition: Very good. Barrel with scattered areas of light surface rust, shallow pitting and displaying a brown patina. Traces of case color remaining on the breech, lever, and lock. A few screw slots worn. Wood furniture in near excellent condition. Bore slightly dark but the rifling remains strong. In very good mechanical condition.
