    "Texas Buffalo Hunt Sharps"

    Sharps Model 1874 Heavy Sporting Rifle Shipped to Frank E. Conrad, Ft. Griffin, Texas.
    Serial no. 159642 (receiver, barrel and buttplate 9642), .44-90 caliber( 2 5/8), 30 1/2-inch octagonal barrel with Bridgeport address, blade front (1876 dime) and Lawrence-marked rear sights. Top barrel flat at breech marked: CALIBRE 44. Right barrel flat marked: 2 5/8. Left side of frame with Sharps Rifle Co. patent marking. Double-set triggers. Oil-finished walnut stock with Schnabel tip. Standard shotgun buttplate. Weight approximately 13.5 lbs. Sold together with a copy of a Sharps Rifle Research letter by Dr. Labowskie. Letter confirms a factory invoicing date of January 4, 1877 to Conrad at Fort Griffin. Letter confirms current configuration of the rifle. The letter ends with, "Congratulations on acquiring a fine Texas Buffalo Hunt Sharps."

    Condition: Very good. Barrel now a textured and finely mottled gray-blue patina with edge wear and scattered patches of fine pitting. Breech with scant traces of case colors, mostly faded to silver with patches of fine pitting on lock plate. Stock is fine with scattered dents age wear and soiling. Bright bore with crisp rifling and showing very little wear. Action excellent.
