    Shipped to Wm Burkhard 1877

    Sharps Model 1874 Business Rifle. Serial no. 159039 (upper tang and barrel), .45-70 (2 1/4) caliber, 28-inch round barrel marked: OLD RELIABLE and with Bridgeport address. Lawrence-marked ladder rear sight. Breech marked: CAL. .45 / BUSINESS .45. Double-set triggers. Walnut stock. Curved steel buttplate. Only 900 of the "Business .45s" were produced.

    Included in the lot is a factory letter from Dr. Labowskie listing March 3, 1877 ship date to William R. Burkhard, gun and sporting goods dealer of St. Paul, Minnesota. Also confirming standard Business Rifle configuration of this Sharps.

    Condition: Good as configured. Barrel a smooth gray patina with signs of having been cleaned. Front sight absent. Marred upper tang screw. Lock and hammer absent. Buttstock a likely replacement. Upper buttplate screw absent. Fore-end darkened with dents and bruising. Bore fair with heavy wear and pitting.
