    Sharps Heavy Model 1874 Sporting Rifle Shipped to Texas 1876.
    Serial no. 159316 (receiver, barrel, and fore-end), .44 caliber (2 5/8), 30-inch octagonal barrel with Bridgeport address, blade front sight, partial rear sight and stamped: OLD RELIABLE. Top barrel flat at breech marked: CALIBRE 44. Bottom barrel flat with: 6/11/16. Left side of frame with Sharps Rifle Co. patent marking. Double-set triggers. Walnut stock. Standard shotgun buttplate which is numbered 159316. Weight approximately 16 lbs.

    Sold together with a copy of a Sharps Factory Letter signed by Dr. Moore. Letter confirms current configuration, lists a ship date of November 28, 1876 and indicates it was sent to Mr. William Heyde of Sherman, Texas.

    Condition: Very good as touched up. Barrel with a smooth, thinning gray-blue patina. Scattered patches of fine pitting, mostly at the bore, some have been touched up. Receiver, hammer and lever showing traces of case colors mixed with a brown age patina. Stock is very good as re-worked. Buttstock has been nicely sanded and refinished. Slightly proud at the lock. Crack at the wrist. Upper tang screw absent. Fore-arm showing much weathering with a 4-inch crack through one screw hole. Dents and one gouge. Re-varnished. Wood loss to sides along barrel. Good bore showing moderate wear and light pitting. Action does not function.
