    Scarce U.S. Springfield Model 1871 Ward-Burton Bolt Action Carbine.

    Unserialized, .50 caliber, 22 1/4-inch barrel with fixed front sight and adjustable rear ladder sight. Left side of receiver marked: (eagle) and U.S. / SPRINGFIELD 1871. Saddle ring. Top of bolt cover reads: WARD BURTON PATENT / DEC. 20, 1859 FEB. 21, 1871. Smooth walnut straight stock with one barrel band. U.S. stamped metal carbine butt. These Ward-Burton carbines were one of the earliest bolt action long arms issued.

    Condition: Very good. Finish primarily a smooth grey patina with noticeable signs of handling wear, scratches and patches of pitting. Heavy dings and bruising present to wood. Crack to left side of wrist above saddle ring. Action good. Strong bore.
