    Description

    Sharps Model 1874 Breechloading Single-Shot Sporting Rifle with Factory Letter. Serial no. 154910 [on tang and bottom of barrel], .45-70 caliber, 28 3/4-inch round barrel with blade type front sight and R.S. Lawrence two-position folding leaf rear sight. Blued finish. Case-hardened action with 1869 patent date and marked on bottom: 429. Extractors. Varnished walnut stock and fore-end. German silver fore-end cap. Steel buttplate. According to consignor, one of approximately 6500 made and shipped October 29, 1875 to John Collins, post sutler at Ft. Laramie, Wyoming.
    Condition: Good. Metal with smooth grey age patina, the frame with strong traces of silvered case-hardening. Minor hammer marks on bottom of breechblock. Wood with dents and bruises. Screw on right side of lower tang. Action good.
