    Merrill First Type Percussion Saddle Ring Carbine.
    Serial no. 6290. .54 caliber. 22-inch round barrel with fixed blade front sight and v-notch rear sight. Iron parts originally blued; casehardened lock, breech and breech lever. Brass trigger guard. Serial number on the lock to the rear of the hammer; and marked: "J. H. MERRILL BALTO. / PAT. JULY. 1858 / APL. 9 MAY 21-28-61" forward of the hammer. Breech lever marked: "J.H. MERRILL BALTO. / PAT. JULY 1858". Walnut straight stock with single brass barrel band, brass patchbox and buttplate. Bar and ring mounted on the left side of the stock.

    Condition: Good. Metal surfaces with a slightly rough mottle gray patina. Rear sight mounted with incorrect screw. Stock with moderate abrasions, dents and scratches. Bore dark. Mechanically sound.
