Cased .450/400 3 1/4 Nitro William Evans Boxlock Extractor Double Rifle.Serial no.: 10955. .450/400 3 ¼ Nitro Express. 26-inch chopperlump barrels with file cut quarter rib with express sights (100 standing and 200, 300 folding). Barrel marked: 450/400-60 grains Cordite, 400 grain soft nose solid pointed bullet. Rib with locking dovetail third fastener. Concave sunken smooth rib with ramped front combination moon and spear sight with sight protector. Casehardened boxlock action 80% engraved with foliate scroll. Extractor. Automatic safety. Disc-set strikers. Finely checkered pistolgrip stock of straight grain walnut. Casehardened grip cap. Vacant silver oval. Period Silver's style recoil pad. Sling swivels. Finely checkered splinter fore-end with lever fore-end. Data: Proof: London, Nitro, 400 ex, Cordite 60-400 max. Pull: 14 ¾ inches. Weight: 10 pounds. Brown leather trunk case with maker's leather label and instructions card. Red baize interior. Unusual steel oil bottle. Kynoch cartridge box with two fired cases. Case strap. Lid marked: F. H. Whyte. Condition: Fine, as partially redone. Barrels show 85-90% older reblued finish. Excellent bright bores with a small area of very light corrosion at muzzle of right barrel. Action shows 60-70% faded case colors with some fine spotting on the left side. Floorplate shows 85-90% worn bluing. Reblued triggerguard shows 70-80% bluing. Stock shows a deep scratch and a number of nicks and scratches. Areas of finish loss. Grip cap shows a brown patina. Fore-end shows wear to the checkering and slight losses to edge. Fore-end lever shows a brown patina. Case in fair/good condition, missing leather handle and one strap. Exterior shows scuffing at edges and nicks and scratches over all. Metal spacers on bottom. Some stitching losses. Interior shows repairs, wear and losses.
