    Original Confederate Import Pattern 1853 British Tower Enfield Percussion Musket. .577 caliber, 39-inch barrel with pedestal front sight and ladder type rear sight. British proofs and *'25' *'25' at breech[.577 caliber]. Lockplate marked: [crown]/1862/Tower. Standard walnut stock, the bottom of buttstock marked: Swinburn [stockmakers from Birmingham Small Arms trade]. Very faintly marked with JS and anchor behind lower tang. Left side of stock marked: S & S 44, thought to be for Scott & Son, Purchasers for the Confederacy, others think Swinburn and Sons. Three steel bands. Brass furniture. Sling mounts. Steel ramrod. Wooden muzzle plug. Condition: Good to very good for this model. Barrel with dark brown age patina, the breech area at nipple heavily pitted from use. Wood with light wear and scattered bruises. Action good.
