Wonderful Pennsylvania Full Stock Flintlock Fowling Piece / Musket C. 1775. 50" .60 caliber smoothbore round barrel with rather thick walls, 65 1/4" overall. Wonderful curly maple stock with rich patina and sweeping architecture reminiscent of guns produced during this period in eastern Pennsylvania. Several details on the elaborate 12" brass trigger guard with acorn finials also denote fabrication in this geographic area of Pennsylvania. Stock with very nice curl, relief carved panel at barrel tang. The gun uses a brass blade front sight and a two piece rear sight is fabricated into the barrel tang. Unmarked lock with goose neck hammer, that appears to be original flintlock configuration. All brass furnishings with entry pipe and two additional ramrod pipes, the brass buttplate with three tiers on the tang. Really superb overall condition with the barrel exhibiting smooth dark patina and all of the brass a pleasing soft patina. Stock overall about perfect with deep rich color. A most attractive Pennsylvania musket, and a form that accompanied many Americans into the early stages of the Revolution.

    Estimate: $5,000 - $7,000.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
