    U.S. Remington Model 1863 Contract Percussion Rifle.
    Unserialized, .58 caliber, 33-inch round barrel with fixed front sight, leaf v-notch rear sights and bayonet lug. Lock dated 1863 to the rear of the hammer and marked: REMINGTON / ILION, N.Y. forward of the hammer. Top of barrel dated 1863. Left side of barrel near the breech marked STEEL and with the inspector's initials H.S.L. Walnut straight stock with two brass barrel bands, brass fore-end tip, patchbox, trigger guard and buttplate. Inspector's cartouche on the left side of the stock. Steel ramrod. Two sling loops.

    Condition: Very good. Metal with an overall smooth brown patina with scattered spots of light surface rust. Traces of case color on the lock. Stock with modest handling and storage wear, including some small gouges and shallow dents and scratches. Dark bore with some pitting. Excellent mechanical condition.
