    U.S. Model 1842 Harpers Ferry Percussion Musket. Unserialized, approximately .69 caliber, 42-inch round barrel secured by three barrel bands. Two sling swivels. Breech marked V/P/[eagle]. Lock marked Harper's/Ferry/1845. Forward of hammer lock is marked Walnut stock with initials carved on left side. Vestige of possible rack numbers on top of comb. Steel buttplate marked US. Condition: Fair. Scattered staining to lock and barrel with light pitting at breech. Ramrod absent. Buttplate mostly a smooth brown patina with stains and patches of surface rust. Wood fair. A good fit to the metal throughout but numerous dents, scratches, gouges. Chips at toe.
