    U.S. Harper's Ferry Model 1855 Percussion Rifle with 1859 Dated Lock.

    Unserialized, .58 caliber, 32-inch barrel with fixed front sight, bayonet lug and rear folding sight. Breech marked: 1859. Lock marked: 1859, (eagle) and U.S. / HARPERS FERRY. Maynard primer. Smooth hardwood stock with two barrel bands and sling swivels. Hinged patchbox. Brass fore-end cap. JR cartouche to left side of stock. U.S. stamped metal buttplate. Made at Harper's Ferry Armory between 1857-1861 with a total production of about 7,317. As the story goes, these 1859 lockplate dated Model 1855's could of very well been at John Brown's raid on Harper's Ferry in 1859. Often called the "dress rehearsal" for the Civil War. His 1859 effort to initiate an armed slave revolt in the Southern states by taking over a United States arsenal at Harper's Ferry, Va. If this gun could talk!

    Condition: Very good. Finish primarily a bright grey patina with scattered signs of handling wear and patches of pitting. Metal parts have been cleaned, with some discoloration. Scuffs, dings and scratches present to wood. Loss rear of lockplate. Action good. Strong bore.
