    Jenks U. S Navy .54 Caliber "Mule Ear" Percussion Carbine. 24 1/4-inch barrel with standard sights. Top of breech marked: W.Jenks/U.S.N./R.P./P/1847/Cast Steel. Two brass barrel bands. Upper breech lever. Mule Ear hammer. Lock marked: N.P. Ames/Springfield/Mass. Walnut stock with brass furniture. Approximately 4,250 manufactured. Overall nice untouched condition with smooth brown patina, with just some minor staining and a few spots with light surface pitting. Wood with nice patina, showing just some honest wear and use. Crisp action and very good bore. A nice representative example of this relatively scarce and innovative Mexican War period U. S. Navy carbine.
