    Half Stock Percussion Rifle by C. Berger, Detroit, Michigan. NVSN, Approximately .54 caliber, 35 1/2-inch heavy octagonal barrel with bead front and rear sight. Unmarked lockplate with light pattern engraving. Barrel marked: C. Berger Detroit and also Remington. Plum brown finish to barrel. Walnut stock with brass and metal furniture. Patchbox to right side of stock. Stock with brass inlays. Note: In American Gunsmiths by Sellers, C. Berger is listed as: Berger, Caspar. Detroit, Michigan 1858-1864, Percussion 1/2 Stock. Condition: Good. 20-30% finish to barrel. Some areas with moderate pitting. Stock with numerous dings and scratches. Stress fractures in fore-end and buttstock. Minor repairs including staining/coloring of stock. Replaced ramrod, configured to appear as tiger maple. Brass inlay of crescent moon missing. Action good. Bore dark.
