    Fancy Mid-19th Century German or Austrian Percussion Double Rifle Marked MA-----IN GABEL. Unserialized. Approximately .58 caliber. 27-inch barrels with standing rear sight on an ornate base and a blade front sight. Right barrel with 7 groove spiral rifling, measures 0.565 inches. Left barrel with 7 groove straight rifling measures 0.580 inches with shallower rifling. Left barrel possibly for ball or shot. Barrels and breech appear to be one piece. Bar action locks engraved with bold foliate scroll with sporting scenes of pointer and birds. Locks with recessed areas at rear. Flat sided dolphin head hammers. Engraved triggerguard with pistolgrip tang. Adjustable straight front trigger and curved rear trigger. One piece stock of well-figured walnut with basket-weave carving at grip. Silver oval with initials: FV and 5 pointed crown inset with carved wood border. Flat cheekpiece with floral carving at rear. Locking patch box with checkered lid and carved release. Steel buttplate with 5-inch boldly engraved top and bottom tang. Bottom of stock is flat with a threaded black knob and a mushroom sling keeper. Smooth forepart of stock with wedge and engraved finial. Brass fitted loading/cleaning rod in two ferrules, rear with sling swivel. According to the consignor this gun was purchased in Hungary and may have belonged to European Royalty.

    Condition: Fine. Barrels show 94-96% bluing starting to turn brown with considerable very light spotting. Excellent bores show a few small pits with bluing still visible in the barrels. Balance of metal with a silver patina. Forepart shows a repair of a removed wedge. Stock show some nicks, scratches and impressions.
