Exceptional 'In The Black' M1861 Confederate Richmond .58 Caliber Percussion Rifled Musket, 1863. The gun overall completely untouched with all metal displaying smooth, deep dark patina. Just a few small dents and some salt and peppering in the breech area. Brass butt plate and nose cap also with nice untouched patina. Markings excellent including 1863 date at the tail of the lock and C. S. / Richmond, Va. on the forward section of the lock. The right side of the rear sight is marked with the numeral 17, significance unknown. Excellent barrel proofs. Crisp action, really excellent bore. The wood exhibits the same dark untouched patina and is quite sharp. The buttstock exhibits some interesting period carving, with a sequence of initials and numerals deeply carved top to bottom as follows: "W. K. 64 / E. K. 14 / T. K. 18" and on the wrist "C. K. 64". The wood opposite the lock is lightly carved with the initials "A. T" and Roman numerals "XIX" The gun is complete and original in every respect including the swelled ramrod and really an exceptional untouched Richmond.

    Estimate: $6,000 - up.
