Circa 1845 Full Stock Pennsylvania Rifle by Conrad Horn of Hazleton, Pennsylvania. Classic example of Horn's rather unusual work, in wonderful untouched condition. 36" .45 caliber full octagonal rifled barrel. Rifle utilizes side action 'mule ear' percussion lock, of which Horn was a great proponent. Hand made lock with faceted hammer, the external spring being a correct replacement. Excellent bore and mechanically fine. Barrel generally smooth and dark with just some minor pitting at the breech and signed "C. Horn" on the top flat. Front and rear dovetailed sights with decorative engraving at the front sight. All brass furniture with 5" toe plate. Decoratively engraved four piece patchbox with horsehead finial and spring loaded lid. Another interesting characteristic of Horn's work, which often features human or animal head patchbox finials. Nicely figured maple stock which exhibits a nicely done period repair at the wrist utilizing a wooden plug. Long hairline on the left side of the forestock with no loss and easily repaired.

Very nice example of the unique work done by this highly skilled and very desirable maker.
