    Description

British Pattern 1853 Enfield .577 Caliber Rifled Musket. .577 caliber. 39" round barrel with fixed front sight. Full walnut stock with three barrel bands, retaining one sling swivel. Heavy rust and pitting to the metal surfaces but mechanically it remains sound. The consignor indicates that this weapon was found along with a Manhattan revolver wrapped in rotted burlap underneath the floorboards of an outbuilding attached to Captain Bender's Tavern in Sharpsburg, Maryland. Sharpsburg, was of course, the scene of the Battle of Antietam and it's not inconceivable that this weapon was present during the fighting.
