    Model 1874 Sporting Rifle Shipped in 1871 with Factory Letter.
    Serial no. C53451 (tang and barrel), .44 caliber (2 ¼-inch Berdan), 30-inch octagonal barrel with dove-tail blade front sight. The adjustable rear sight is marked with the standard Lawrence patent mark and is mounted over the Sharp's address on the barrel flat. Tang-mounted rear sight is un-marked and is over the serial number. Blued and case-hardened finishes. Double-set triggers. Varnished walnut stock with pewter tip. Inside of fore-arm is marked: 53451. Smooth, curved steel buttplate. Sold together with a copy of a factory letter confirming current configuration and listing a ship date of 1871 to John Wolfenberger of Bureau, Illinos. Weight 12 pounds.

    Condition: Very good to fine. Barrel retains some traces of blue but is mostly a smooth brown-gray patina with scattered dents and small patches of fine pitting. Receiver, lever and hammer showing scant traces of silvered case colors. Stock is fine for a gun shipped in 1871. Scattered dents commensurate with age. Traces of what appear to be initials to right side of buttstock. Crack to fore-end tip.
