    Description

    Marlin Ballard Sporting Rifle.
    Serial no. 949, 30-inch octagonal heavy barrel with front and rear sight. Replacement adjustable tang sight. Originally blued finish with case-hardened frame. Deluxe checkered stock configuration. Left side of frame marked J.L. MARLIN NEW HAVEN / BALLARD'S PATENT.

    Condition: Fair to good. An overall dark mottled gray patina with traces of bluing/brown to barrel. Frame mostly scattered gray patina. No markings on barrel. Replacement tang sight (possible modern reproduction). Wood with repairs, numerous marks, wear and mars. Checkering is very soft. Broken/cracks at the wrist and buttstock. Missing piece on right side of fore-end. Mold present on wood and metal from poor storage. Rust and pitting to buttplate Action good. Bore dark.
