Description

Winchester Third Model 1866 Musket. Serial no. 32248B, .44 center fire caliber, 27-inch round barrel with standard front and ladder rear sights. Straight-grained oil-finished walnut stock with musket-style configuration, three barrel bands and two sling swivels. 24-inch magazine. Curved brass buttplate with storage compartment. Conditon: Very good. Retaining most of the original finish which is now a smooth plum brown with scattered patches of fine pitting. Heavier scratches to magazine tube under front barrel band. Slight bulge in barrel five inches from muzzle. Area of address showing signs of having been cleaned. Mellow patina to brass with patches of staining and fine scratches. Lever screw and upper tang screw showing some disfiguration. Wood with moderate age wear, numerous small dents and 3-inch cracks at forearm and wrist. Rear sling swivel is stiff. Bore is good showing moderate wear. Manufactured 1870. From the Michael Yeck Collection.
