Description

Winchester Model 1873 Saddle Ring Carbine. Serial no. 158287A, .44-40 caliber, 20-inch round barrel with post-blade front and ladder rear sights. Rear sight graduated to 900 yards and marked: 1873. Two-line New Haven address. Blued finish. Saddle ring present. Caliber designations on top of barrel and bottom of elevator. Smooth walnut stock with crescent steel buttplate. Storage compartment contains three-piece steel cleaning rod. Sold together with factory letter confirming carbine configuration and ship date.

Condition: Good to very good. Retaining approximately 10-20% original finish primarily in protected areas with the balance a smooth gray-brown patina with patches of fine pitting. Saddle ring shadow observed. Wood is very good to fine with minor marks. Dark patch of moderate saddle wear on forearm near barrel band. Bright bore with scattered patches of light pitting. Action excellent. Manufactured 1884.
