    Winchester Model 1866 Lever Action Rifle.
    Serial no. 78840, .44 rimfire, 24 1/2-inch octagonal barrel with New Haven address and patent date of October 16, 1860. Blued and case-hardened finish. Brass receiver. Smooth, oil-stained walnut stock. Lower tang bearing the initials LB stamped in smaller font, at end of serial number. Curved steel buttplate with storage.

    Condition: Very good to fine. Traces of blue remain in protected areas only, the balance a very pleasing smooth blue-brown patina. Scattered patches of very fine pitting. Front sight blade a replacement. Magazine tube screw absent. Brass with a dark patina with scattered small nicks and dents. Side plates a slightly lighter shade, possibly cleaned. Left side plate screws with tool marks. Elevator with stain and numerous tool marks. Stock very good to fine with traces of an old re-varnish. Fore-end showing a two-inch crack on left side at end cap. Buttstock with chip missing (approximately 1 1/2-inches x 1/2-inch). Old repair to wood on comb at buttplate. Action good. Bore with light to moderate pitting.
