Sharps New Model 1863 Saddle Ring Carbine.

Serial no. 82294, .52 caliber, 22-inch barrel with fixed front sight and rear folding ladder sight. Blued finish. Saddle ring. Lawrence and Sharp's patent dates to right side of receiver. Smooth walnut straight stock and fore-end. Hinged patchbox to right side of stock. Together with photocopy of Civil War Weapons Search stating this Sharps Carbine #82294 was a "Range Match" to Civil War Regiment; 10th Ohio Vol Cavalry / March 1864. According to their records definition, "a Range Match indicates that the weapon's serial number is within the serial number range of identical weapons issued to the CW Regiment (s) listed. Therefore, a probability exits that the piece was issued to a soldier in the regiment (s) listed" Also included is correspondence between previous consignor and the National Archives and Records Administration in Washington DC regarding a listing or records related to the 10th Ohio and what small arms were issued to the unit; if available.

Condition: Good. Finish primarily a dark grey patina with scattered areas of handling wear, age and pitting. Heavy scuffs, dings and bruises present to wood. B.M.T. and R.H.W. carved into left side of stock. Action good. Moderately pitted bore.
