Scarce First Model Henry Rifle, Serial Number 2589 Matching. Standard configuration with octagonal barrel, brass frame and buttplate, caliber .44 Henry RF. The factory ladder rearsight has been removed from the dovetail, dovetail fine, and a notched rear sight has been dovetailed into the top of the frame at the rear. Normal barrel markings are present and very crisp, there is also a small unidentified mark of a four petaled flower stamped or engraved on the top of the frame at the breech. A five pointed silver star, just over an inch point to point, has been inlaid into the right side of the butt. There is no cleaning rod in the butt compartment and the front sling swivel is missing. The gun shows signs of moderate use overall with some scattered tiny dings and just some minor rounding of the wood where it meets the metal. Else most edges very sharp with excellent bore and mechanically fine. The barrel retains much old blue, that appears to be original, mixing with smooth dark patina, with absolutely no rust or pitting. Completely correct and original with the exception of the sight change.

A very nice honest example of a First Model Henry rifle.
