    C. Sharps 1852 Breechloading Single Shot Sporting Rifle. Serial no. 5737, .52 caliber, 21-inch barrel with fixed front sight and rear folding sight. Top of barrel marked: SHARPS RIFLE / MANUF. CO. / HARTFORD. CONN. Upper tang marked: C. SHARPS / PATENT / 1848. Lock marked: C. SHARPS / PATENT / 1852. Oil-finished walnut stock with hinged cap box. Carbine metal buttplate. Property from the Estate of John R. Eckel, Sr.

    Condition: Very good. Finish primarily a grey age patina with staining, wear and pitting. Screw absent on upper tang. Wood showing scuffs, dings and bruising. Large "V" shaped crack at base of stock at butt. Minor wood loss to edges. Action good. Lightly pitted bore.
