    Interesting American Flintlock Musket Marked: J.Caswell. .73 caliber, 44 3/8-inch unmarked barrel with original front sight and three steel barrel bands. Many features reminiscent of French weapons of the era, [see Neumann, page 99] possibly a period composite. Flintlock mechanism faintly marked: J. CASWELL.. [A known New Hampshire gunsmith, at one time partners with a man named Dodge]. Walnut stock with steel furniture and sling mounts. High-combed buttstock. Wooden ramrod. By repute, used by Harvey Maycumber at the Battle of Bunker Hill. No provenance. Condition: Fair to good. Metal showing heavy wear and dark age patina and pitting overall. Wood showing wear, minor sliver chips to fore-end. Wormed buttstock and frame area. Action good. No flint present.
