Fine Unsigned Berks County Pennsylvania Original F/L Full Stock Rifle, Circa 1830. 37", .40 caliber, rifled octagonal barrel with fine bore. Decoratively engraved on the top of the barrel at breech plug, breech, muzzle and both the V-notch rear sight and brass blade front sight, validating the rifle remains in its original length. Lock marked "Askew & Paxson / Warranted" and remains in original Flintlock configuration. The touch hole has been bushed but is, again, original flintlock. The maple stock exhibits strong curl and is excellent with nice patina showing honest wear. There is an old repair, with a small piece of replaced wood, to a crack just above the rear ramrod pipe, and missing one small sliver just forward of this repair. Should be properly redone by a competent restorer. Otherwise the rifle is complete, original, and untouched. Patchbox very typical of this area, and slightly further east, with nice incised line engraving. Small brass toeplate incorporates the patchbox release. There is a 5 1/2" brass plate on the top of the comb, a silver crescent moon inlaid on the cheekpiece, and a silver wrist escutcheon. The tail of the rear ramrod pipe is 2 1/8" long, and their are incised lines decorating the cheekpiece. Faceted cast brass side plate, wide low profile trigger guard, also typical of this area, with decorative curl at the tip of the trigger. A very attractive rifle from a desirable school in fine condition.
