    Evans Lever Action Carbine Inscribed to "WM" Polk Hardeman Texas Railroad Inspector and Confederate States Army Brigadier General. NVSN, .44 caliber, 22-inch barrel marked: EVAN S REPEATING RIFLE MECHANIC FALLS, ME PAT. DEC.8, 1868 & SEPT.16, 1871. Fixed front sight and rear ladder sight. Blued finish. Walnut stock and fore-end. Underside of fore-end stamped: "WM" POLK HARDEMAN / TEXAS RAILROAD INSPECTOR. Carbine butt with sliding loading gate for magazine. Rear swivel sling mount.
    William Polk Hardeman, 1816-1898, was a Confederate States Army brigadier general during the Civil war, he fought in the Texas War of Independence in 1836, was a member of the Texas Rangers and fought in the Mexican-American War in 1846-1847.
    Condition: Very good to fine. Retaining approximately 20-30% finish, the balance a mixture of brown and grey patina with scattered wear and fine patches of pitting. Wood showing a few dents and dings. Couple of noticeable dents around edges. Action crisp. Bright bore.
