    Engraved Winchester Third Model 1873 Lever Action Rifle Attributed to L.D. Nimschke. Serial no. 77618, .44-40 caliber, 24-inch octagonal barrel with sporting sights. Receiver including elevator completely scroll-engraved. Left side with vacant oval. Right side with figure of paper scroll. Smooth walnut stock with crescent buttplate and cleaning rod reservoir. No cleaning rod. Fore-end cap and top of buttplate also extensively engraved in the same style. Stippling on buttplate particularly sharp and tight. Accompanied by letter from R.L.Wilson authenticating Nimschke engraving. Manufactured in 1880.
    Condition: Very good as configured. Barrel now a smooth plum-brown patina with light wear to relief edges and scattered fine scratches. Magazine tube retaining approximately 50-60% blue finish, the balance a thin gray-brown patina. Receiver a smooth and lustrous gray patina with scattered fine scratches. Dust cover a lighter grey and possibly a period replacement. Lower fore-end sling mount screw missing. Wood is very good with scratches and small gouges to forearm. 1 1/2-inch hairline crack on right side at frame. Buttstock with scattered scratches and dents and one moderate gouge near comb on right side. Action tight. Bore good with light pitting.
