    Early Henry Lever Action Rifle. Serial no. 345, .44 rimfire caliber, 24-inch octagonal barrel. Barrel address reads: HENRY'S PATENT OCT 16, 1860 / [not legible] NEW HAVEN ARMS Co. NEW HAVEN CT. Blued finish with brass receiver. Barrel with standard adjustable sporting rear sight. Frame dovetail vacant. (According to Madis, "sporting adjustable leaf rear sights were standard; fixed sights would be supplied if ordered.") No lever catch as is correct for this model. Varnished walnut stock. Curved brass buttplate with storage compartment. Both butt screws are marked 345. Both upper tang screws are also numbered to the rifle. Likely manufactured July, 1862, the fourth month of production. It pre-dates the U.S. military contract guns.

    Condition: Very good to fine for this model. Barrel now a pleasing, smooth blue-brown patina with patches of pitting near the breech. Stock: Good. Retaining 70-80% varnish with scattered dents and handling wear. Age wear and patina at wrist. Small chip at toe. Butt screw appears untouched. Upper tang screws good with very light tool wear. Frame screws appear untouched but with traces of surface rust. Screws under frame possible replacements. Screw forward of trigger appears excellent. Loading section of muzzle has replacement screw. Bore with heavy wear, traces of rifling remain.
