    Description

    Early Edo Period Japanese Matchlock c1600s Signed by Sukesane. Approximately .56 caliber, 39 ½-inch signed octagonal barrel with triangular blade front and fixed grooved-block rear sights. Sukesane signature visible under barrel when removed from stock. Brass lock, hammer, trigger and furniture. Fine, floral-engraved fittings under stock, around trigger loop and at back lock pins. Brass rib at heel of stock. Handsome ported brass tube through stock behind hammer. Smooth hardwood stock attached to barrel with bamboo pins through engraved brass fittings. Hardwood ramrod. Overall length 53 ½-inches.
    Condition: Very good to fine for this period. Steel with age patina and scattered pitting. Mellow age patina to brass. Stock is very good, retaining approximately 60-70% of a varnished finish. Scattered dents and fine scratches. Action functions.
