    Description

    British Tower Conversion Musket.
Approximately .80 caliber, 42-inch round barrel with bayonet lug and integral barrel band front sight. Original flint lock marked: TOWER and with percussion nipple. Cock retains original conversion striker. Hardwood stock with iron hardware, 3 barrel bands and one sling swivel. Steel ram rod with flared tip.

Condition: Fair to good. Barrel a mostly smooth dark, age patina with fine pitting at the breech. Lock and breech screws with heavy tool marks and ill-fitting. Action needs mainspring repair and lock is riding high to the stock. Stock is good but with separation under rear barrel band, likely facilitating the shortening of the barrel.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
