    Winchester Model 1883 Hotchkiss Bolt Action Rifle. Serial no. 82793, .45-70 caliber, 22 1/2-inch round barrel with post and bead front and military wind gauge rear sights. Blued and case-hardened finish. Smooth walnut stock with front barrel band/sling swivel. Slightly curved buttplate marked 33 on heel and SS in middle of plate. Bottom of stock tapped for rear sling swivel. Condition: Fine to excellent as altered. Retaining approximately 85-95% blue with minor muzzle wear and thinning near breech. Barrel address is partially obscured by barrel band. Stock appears to be a shortened rifle stock. According to Madis in The Winchester Book pg. 486, "...mixed models of the Hotchkiss were produced." Receiver with muted case colors. Stock fine with scattered dents. Rear sling swivel absent. Action crisp. Mirror bright bore.
