Description

    U.S. Springfield Model 1898 Krag Bolt Action Rifle.
    Serial no. 175511. .30-40 Krag. 30-inch barrel with fixed front sight and Model 1901 rear sight. Metal parts blued; receiver casehardened. Left side of receiver marked "U.S. / MODEL 1898 SPRINGFIELD ARMORY 175511". 1899 carbine headless cocking piece. Walnut stock cut down to carbine length. Stock with faint circle "P" firing proof, "JLA / 1902" inspector's cartouche and a small cross cannon Ordnance Department escutcheon and "H H" on the left side of the stock. Hand guard absent. Metal buttplate with trap door for cleaning rod.

    Condition: Good as modified. Bluing worn to a smooth gray patina with some traces of the case color on the receiver. Stock cut down as described otherwise with light scratches and small dents. Bore dark with some scattered pitting. Mechanically sound.
