Serial no. 126777. .30-40 Krag. 22-inch barrel with fixed Lyman front sight and rear peep sight mounted to a Model 1896 sight base. Metal parts blued; receiver casehardened. Left side of receiver marked "U.S. / MODEL 1898 SPRINGFIELD ARMORY 126777". Walnut stock, shortened, heavily sanded, butt profile altered and lacking metal buttplate. Sold with a leather military-style sling.
Condition: Fair as modified. Metal finish worn thin and with a smooth, mottled gray patina. Scant traces of case color on the receiver. Lacking magazine cutoff. Stock well worn and altered as described. Trigger guard has a small dent on the left side. Modestly worn bore. Mechanically sound though bolt does rattle a bit in the closed position.
