    U.S. Springfield Krag Model 1898 Modified Short Rifle. Serial no. 326112, .30-40 caliber, 20-inch barrel with dovetailed blade front sight. Front barrel band with bayonet lug. Rear sight marked for 2,000 yards. Left side of receiver stamped: U.S. / MODEL 1898. SPRINGFIELD ARMORY. 326112. Flat steel buttplate with compartment. Two-piece hard wood finger-groove stock with hand guard. Two-sling swivels. Left side of wrist with very faint cartouche that appears to contain the date of 1902. Condition: Fair to good. Barrel appears to have been shortened. Barrel a dark age patina and light pitting. Receiver a combination of gray patina and dried cosmoline. Stock good with heavy age wear and soiling. Crack observed at front of hand guard. Long hairline crack under bolt handle.
