Note: The .280 Ross Rimless was introduced in 1907 and was the forerunner of all of the high velocity cartridges. It was introduced with a 140 grain hollow point bullet and a muzzle velocity of 2900 fps. It quickly achieved notoriety for having instantaneous killing power on thinned game. Unfortunately, it was used on the big cats with much less success, to the personal misfortune of a number of hunters.
