Apache-Used .60 Caliber 1816 Springfield Musket. This great Indian gun is from the collection of Dr. W. T. Ross of Tucson according to an included notarized statement. Dr. Ross collected Apache artifacts from the San Carlos and White Mountain reservations from the 1930s to the 1950s.

It was converted to a percussion action, possibly during the Mexican War period, as the lock is marked "Spring/ Field/ 1830" behind the hammer. Trade silver disk affixed to cut-down walnut stock. Period cordage-wrapped repair shows rich old patina. Five cone-shaped tin "tinklers" attached. Consistent old, pleasing overall patina befitting a relic gun of this nature. Wonderful "period flavor." Length 44.75".
