    Huge Persian Bowl

    MODERN JUDAICA. Persia. Early-mid 20th Century. Large standing silver-plated bowl. Imposing scalloped footed of silver-plated copper bowl is 24 inches (60 cm) tall and 18.75 inches (48 cm) in diameter, profusely chased with the narrative of the Achaemenid king Cyrus the Great, depicted with a nod to ancient artistic conventions large in profile, with stylized hair and beards. Scenes continue on baluster stern and domed foot with additional floral patterning.

    Cyrus the Great (known as Koresh in Hebrew) conquered the Neo-Babylonian Empire and allowed the exiled Jews to return to their homeland and rebuild their temple.

    II Chronicles, 36: (23) "Thus saith Cyrus, king of Persia: All the kingdoms of the earth hath the Lord, the God of heaven given me; and He hath charged me to build Him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Whosoever there is among you of all His people - the lord, his God, be with him - let him go there."
